This page describes what GigaClean does with data, written to match how the app is actually built rather than to sound reassuring. The short version: every cleanup tool runs on your iPhone, and we operate no server that receives your photos or videos.
1. Who is responsible
GigaClean is published by CARACCIOLO SRL. In this policy, "we" means CARACCIOLO SRL and "the App" means GigaClean for iPhone. The policy covers the App and this website at gigaclean-cleaner.com.
For anything about data, write to [email protected].
2. Short version
In short: the App contains no advertising SDKs, no third-party analytics SDKs, and does not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA). We do not sell data, because we do not collect it in the first place.
| Data | Where it is handled | Leaves your device? |
|---|---|---|
| Photos and videos compared for duplicates | On your iPhone | No |
| Similar shots, screenshots and Live Photos | On your iPhone | No |
| Screen recordings and large videos | On your iPhone | No |
| Results of a scan, such as duplicate groups | On your iPhone | No |
| Background removal cut-outs | On your iPhone | No |
| Device checklist readings | On your iPhone | No |
| Purchases and subscription status | Apple (StoreKit / App Store) | Yes, to Apple, not to us |
| Emails you choose to send us | Our mailbox | Yes, because you sent it |
3. What stays on your device
The cleanup tools are the reason the App exists, and every one of them runs locally:
- Duplicates and similar shots. Comparison runs on the device through Apple's Photos framework. Images are not uploaded for analysis.
- Screenshots and Live Photos. Identified from metadata your iPhone already holds about your own library.
- Videos and screen recordings. Sorted and grouped on the device, using the file sizes iOS already reports.
- Background removal. The subject is lifted from the photo on the device, and the cut-out is saved where you choose.
- Device checklist. Reads two iOS settings, your system version and whether a passcode is set, and displays what they say. Neither reading is recorded or transmitted.
We operate no server that stores your photos, your videos or the results of a scan. Any technical artefact of a scan, such as a comparison index or a temporary thumbnail, lives on your device and is removed when you delete the App.
What deletion actually does. When you confirm a deletion, the App asks iOS to remove those items. iOS does not erase them immediately: it moves them to the Recently Deleted album, where the system keeps them for around 30 days before removing them permanently. Only you can empty that album. No third-party app, including this one, is permitted to do it for you.
4. What Apple handles
Because the App is distributed and monetised through the App Store, some data is necessarily processed by Apple as part of that infrastructure, not by us:
- Purchases. Subscriptions are sold and billed entirely through Apple's In-App Purchase system (StoreKit). We never see your card details. Apple tells the App only whether a purchase or subscription is active, so it can unlock what you paid for and restore purchases on a new device.
- Diagnostics you opt into. If you have enabled "Share With App Developers" in Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements, Apple may pass us crash logs in de-identified form. This is controlled by your iOS settings and Apple's privacy terms, not by an SDK we added.
- App Store metrics. Apple provides aggregated, anonymous figures such as downloads and subscription counts through App Store Connect. These describe the App Store listing as a whole, not you individually.
None of this is access we requested beyond what distributing an app through the App Store requires.
5. Permissions
- Photos. Required for finding duplicates, similar shots, screenshots, Live Photos, screen recordings and large videos, and for background removal. Full Access lets the App compare your whole library. With Limited Access it can only work with the items you selected, so most groups will not appear.
- Notifications (optional). Used only for messages about the App if you allow them. Declining changes nothing else about how the App works.
Every permission can be withdrawn at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security. Withdrawing one stops the feature that depends on it from working. Nothing is deleted as a result of withdrawing a permission.
6. Legal bases
Where the EU GDPR or the UK GDPR applies to you, we rely on:
- Performance of a contract for providing the App's features and managing your subscription, purchases and restores through Apple.
- Your consent for the iOS permission prompts, which you grant or decline directly through iOS and may withdraw at any time.
- Our legitimate interests in answering support email and keeping the App Store listing accurate.
7. Who data is shared with
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we share nothing for advertising, because there is essentially nothing of yours passing through us to share. The only parties involved are:
- Apple — App Store distribution, In-App Purchase billing and subscription management, and the optional crash diagnostics you enabled in iOS.
- Our email provider, for correspondence you choose to send us.
- Our website hosting provider, which may keep standard server access logs, such as IP address and request time, for the security and availability of this website.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend legal claims.
8. International transfers
Apple's App Store infrastructure operates internationally, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the EEA or the United Kingdom in connection with your purchase, that transfer is governed by Apple's own privacy terms and the safeguards Apple applies as the payment processor and platform operator. If you have a specific question about a transfer, write to [email protected].
9. How long data is kept
- Photos, videos and scan results. Held on your device only, for as long as you keep them there. Deleting the App removes its local data.
- Purchase and subscription status. Held by Apple for as long as your Apple Account requires, under Apple's own retention practices.
- Support email. Kept for as long as needed to resolve your request and to have a record of it, then deleted.
10. Your rights
If the EU GDPR or the UK GDPR applies to you, you have the right to request access to any personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to processing, to receive it in a portable form, and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
Write to [email protected] from the address concerned and we will answer within one month, or tell you if we need longer, as the law allows. In practice, because your photos and videos never reach us, a request will mostly concern support correspondence we hold, since your purchase records sit with Apple rather than with us.
If you believe we have handled your data improperly, you can complain to your national data protection authority. We would rather you told us first, at the address above.
11. US state privacy rights
If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you have rights to know, to delete, to correct and to opt out of sale, sharing and targeted advertising. We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising as the California Consumer Privacy Act defines those terms, so there is no opt-out to offer. For the other rights, use the address in section 15.
12. Children
GigaClean is rated 4+ and is not directed at children in a way that involves collecting personal data. Indeed, we do not collect personal data from any user. If you believe a child has used the App in a way that raises a concern, write to [email protected].
13. Security
Every connection this website and the App make travels over encrypted HTTPS. The strongest measure here is structural rather than technical: the App is built so your photos and videos stay on your device, which means there is no database of ours holding them to be breached. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we do not claim otherwise.
14. Changes
If the App changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update it before or alongside that release, and the date at the top will change with it. Material changes will also be noted in the App Store release notes. The current version always lives at gigaclean-cleaner.com/privacy.
